Preparing for your marriage and upcoming wedding day is an emotional rollercoaster. All the planning, family and friend interactions, finances, not to mention attempting to feel secure in your relationship, it’s enough to make anyone question their sanity.

That’s why my team and a few colleagues came up with the journal prompts below to aid in your wedding worries. We’ve been there and experienced the stresses of preparing for marriage with your partner and wedding planning.

A few things to keep in mind while completing these journal prompts for wedding anxiety:

– Take your time to reflect on each question, and physically write down your answers.

-If you feel comfortable, share your concerns with your partner. You are in this partnership together.

You don’t have to have all of the answers now. Feel free to answer what you do know right now and come back to the others as you think through them.

-Please feel free to share these journal prompts with any friend or family planning a wedding.

 Journal Prompts

  • How do I know my partner is right for me?
  • Who is my biggest support?
  • What am I most fearful of?
  • What can someone say to me to help me feel understood and supported?

  • What is my favorite memory with my significant other? How can it help put me at ease today?
  • What can I delegate to my partner, wedding party, or family?
  • How can I best support my partner right now?

  • What was the hardest thing we went through together? How did it strengthen our relationship? What lessons did we learn from it?

  • What sacrifices are you and your partner making for each other? How can you compromise to make sure you are each getting what you want out of your wedding day?
  • Brain dump all of your wedding worries here.
  • Have you scheduled a chance to breathe and reflect?
  • What have you not shared with your wedding planner/coordinator?
  • Have you made your to-do list for the days leading up to your big day?
  • How would you know if you didn’t want to marry your partner?
  • In what ways has your family shown that they support your upcoming wedding?

  • What is something that you do not want to give up (whether on your wedding day or in future)?
  • List 10 things you love about your relationship.
  • What are your biggest fears for the wedding day?
  • What are the best possible outcomes for the big day?
  • What details of your wedding are most important?
  • What details are less important that you can be flexible on?

After completing these journal prompts, please take some time for yourself to breathe and relax. This is such an exciting and stressful part of your life. Go for a walk. Talk with a loved one. Practice yoga. Watch a comedy. Play with cute animals. Do something that makes you happy.

Another thing to note is that taking the time to answer these questions will give you more insight into your relationship. You may be able to see things differently now than you did in the past. You may also find that you have more confidence in expressing your wants and needs to your partner in a healthy way. Also consider this workbook with your partner.
